Entrepreneurs: What Does it Take to Succeed?

By: James Walsh

Excellent Entrepreneurs

Becoming an entrepreneur is easy, but becoming a successful entrepreneur involves extreme hard work. People aspiring to turn rich should study and imbibe the qualities of successful businessmen. Universally, all successful entrepreneurs have similar qualities.

Good Judgement

Good business is dependent upon good judgements. This determines the success or failure of a business. People making such right choices are not extraordinarily intelligent. It is the knowledge gained by years of experience that enables them to decide correctly. The success rate of any business venture increases if one has experience in that particular field. Many start-up ventures fail due to the simple reason that the entrepreneurs do not have the requisite knowledge.

Determination

The path to a successful business venture is never smooth. It is only determination that enables a person to persevere through difficult times. Patient persistence makes people self-confident, for they realise that they are capable of overcoming obstacles.

Can Entrepreneurial Qualities be Imbibed?

Very few people are born entrepreneurs. People might have certain inherent qualities that have made them successful businessmen. But these qualities can be consciously cultivated and developed.

Qualities of World-Class Entrepreneurs

Small entrepreneurs should have an in-depth knowledge of their branch of business. World-class entrepreneurs have a deep knowledge of the fundamental principles of creative business management.

Vision for the Future

World-class entrepreneurs have foresight and vision. Extremely successful businessmen are deeply motivated by their work. Their determination and vision transcend mere profit motive. Their passion and love for their work help them establish huge business empires.

Competitiveness

Competition based on price, quality and quantity is soon imitated by other market players. Market leadership is possible by vigorous implementation of well-planned long term marketing strategies.

Customer-Driven

Global business leaders have a deep understanding of the market and the customers. They create distinctive products tailor-made to customer liking. Soon customers begin associating the brand name with the product. Such is the popularity their products enjoy.

Creative Leadership

Business leaders create a new direction for the business and rise up to challenges posed. They do not fear responsibilities and derive great joy in accomplishment.

A Famous Entrepreneur in the UK

Richard Branson is one such world-class entrepreneur. He has 200 companies that employ 25,000 people.

At the age of 20 Richard Branson opened ‘Virgin,’ a small mail order record retailer. Very soon Virgin Music became a household name. In the year 1984, he started Virgin Atlantic Airways which earned profits the very first year. Since then the airline has won many awards. In the year 1997, Virgin railways introduced hi-tech trains.

Richard Branson has a simple policy. He concentrates on those sectors where customers are not well-served. He ensures customer satisfaction by delivering old products and services in a new and better manner. He is creative and daringly ventures into fields none has ever attempted before.

In the year 2008, Richard Branson is launching sub-orbital space services. Passengers would be taken to experience 7 minutes of weightlessness. Richard Branson and his close family members would be on the first flight.

The fearlessness of Richard Branson was repeatedly proved as he attempted many world-record-breaking feats. This nature made him pioneer many innovative projects- trip to sub-orbital space being one such endeavour. He works very hard. And luck favours hard-working people. He was awarded the knighthood in the year 1999.

Finally, Richard Branson is a good human being. He is well-known for his philanthropic contributions right since his teenage.

A little knowledge about his background helps one realise how such qualities had been nurtured in him since the age of 4. He belonged to a very loving family. His mother in her determination to make her children independent often set physical challenges for them to conquer. And it was this training that has created world-class entrepreneurial qualities in him.

Excellent entrepreneurs are born and most of the times they are created. The success story of Richard Branson proves this point.
